Ken Goldman is an internationally known artist, author, teacher and juror. A recipient of numerous awards, he has exhibited widely in various group shows and solo exhibitions around the world, most recently in the International Fabriano en Aquarello 2015, in Italy. He is a signature member of the National and American Watercolor Societies as well as the San Diego Watercolor Society, and is the current President of the National Watercolor Society. His work has been featured in magazines such as International Artist, The Artist’s Magazine and Watercolor Magic, as well as in the Splash series of books volumes 12 and 13. In this workshop, Ken will guide students in Understanding how pencil-stroke directions turn flat 2-d shapes into convincing 3-d volumetric forms. These techiques create greater depth in all of your watercolor paintings? Participants will learn how to put a final composition together using value studies, small color thumbnails, layers of tracing paper. Take Stephanie Goldman’s workshop on August 2, and you’ll already have additional value techniques that will add to your work with Ken. This technique works well for all subjects, not just figures and portraits. Participants should bring their favorite photos to work from – Flora, fauna, still life, landscape or figures/portraits. Ken will demonstrate this technique at the beginning of class and then throughout the day whenever necessary.
Discussion and critiques will follow the workshop session. Some drawing skill is necessary for this workshop.
