THE FIGURE: GESTURES, SHORT POSES, AND A LONG POSE
Course Overview:
If you participate in figure sketch groups, what we do in this workshop will add a whole new dimension to your appreciation of the figure drawing process. On day one, with poses ranging in length from 2 to 20 minutes and perhaps a 40-minute pose toward the end, we will focus primarily on effective ways to simplify and depict the figure in terms of gesture, rhythm, design, flat shapes, and simplified light/dark areas. For the rest of the week, our model will hold a four-day repeated pose. This combination of short and long poses will allow students not only to practice gesture and rhythm, but also to learn how gesture and rhythm form the basis for successful longer poses. Deeper study of anatomy will be shared on a “want to know” basis.
